|
|
Hi Everyone,
I had some fun with some pizzabox Sparcstations last year, but I haven't played with Sparc machines in a while, and I've never tried to throw Gentoo on one. I might be in a position to get a Tadpole SparcLE Notebook like the ones here:
http://www.tadpolecomputer.com/html/products/mobile/sparcle/purchase.html
Does anyone have any experience putting Gentoo on these? Is it possible? I've been running Gentoo on an intel laptop for the last 6 months -- would switching to a sparc notebook be a huge hurdle?
Thanks for the advice in advance! |

Make sure about the prom version. It should not be higher than 4.5.9 for linux to install. _________________ Inspiron 4100 & Sun UltraAXe

I would have liked a list of the PCI devices that were inside the system. Specifically wireless. (Visions of hijacking their wireless drivers to use on a desktop system using the same card) _________________ Inspiron 4100 & Sun UltraAXe

Were you ever able to install Gentoo on your SparcLE? I just got one and would like to install Gentoo on it but I'm not sure if it will work.
Thanks |

I received the sparc LE laptop last week, (seller and I were in different parts of the world for a bit) and I evaluated it as a daily use machine.
Result of my evaluation: This thing has a leafblower motor in it for cooling purposes. Too loud!
I ebayed it.

So I take it you never installed Gentoo on it? Do you think I could install it?
I actually won mine from a contest that Tadpole had so I can't complain too much, but I do agree on the leafblower. Maybe I'll name it that.
Thanks. |

Stonent probably knows more about this than I do (see his post above). I never tried putting gentoo on it.
If you can get past the tornado-inducing fans I'm sure it would make a great gentoo box! |

I've got one and I tried to boot the 2005.1 LiveCD and it stopped at
Code: |
clock_probe: Cannot find timer chip
|
OBP version is 4.0.207, which must be mod'd by Tadpole 'cause Sun's OBP don't have version numbers that long in the third place. |
