Hi all.
Before someone says so, i know Kaffeine is still "Testing" for sparc but nonetheless, i installed it to play my video and when the time comes, use my freecom dvb-t stick.
My question is simple, how are other sparc users finding performance in Kaffeine? I can play mp3s but they stutter when i do things because the visualisation is running and i cant watch videos at any more than a miniscule resolution (ie, a shrunken window).
My system is an Ultra 60 with dual 450 cpus and a Creator 3d graphics card with 2gb of ram. I have a 2.4 kernel but i hope to go to a 2.6 soon and KDE 3.4. Granted i am using the god awful CS4231 sound card (i have a YMF724 which im yet to compile gubbins for) with the ESD driver but surely the system should be MORE than up to the job. |

AFAIK, xvideo hardware acceleration on Creator 3D cards is still not working with the sunffb driver, so the CPU has to do everything.
If I'm mistaken, please oh please let me know, since I would love to get smooth DivX playback on my Ultra 10. |

I'm guessing you're right. I have KDE 3.4 on my system and there is anoticeable delay as it loads the wallpaper and icons on startup.
Would there be much difference bewteen a 2.4 kernel and a 2.6 or is it all down to X11's driver? I can't seem to get 2.6 working. I have made triple double safety sure that Creator 3D and Sun Type 4/5 keyb is being compiled (not module) in menuconfig for 2.6 but lo, all i get is the crappy white console at tiny x minute resoultion and no keyboard input - can't even do a Stop+A. I end up having to SSH into it and rebooting. Any thoughts? |
