just got a new nforce2 mobo, but i can't seem to get the lan working. ifconfig -a shows only the lo, so the kernel is apparently not detecting it. do i need to install the nvidia drivers? and what module do i use for the nic, supposedly it's a Realtek RTL8201.
Anyway, it's late at night and i've had enough computer problems for the day (the reason i have a new mobo in the first place...), so i'm not really thinking very clearly and would appreciate help. You might need to get the drivers from nVidia. |

Thanks, i'll have to try it. So there's no open modules currently available?
Also, a related problem: modprobe uhci returns
Code: | /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r2/kernel/drivers/usb/uhci.o: init_module: No such device
Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters.
You may find more information in syslog or the output from dmesg.
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r2/kernel/drivers/usb/uhci.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r2/kernel/drivers/usb/uhci.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.20-gaming-r2/kernel/drivers/usb/uhci.o: insmod uhci failed |
What could be the problem? I tried the usb-uhci module as well, same errors. Any ideas?? _________________ Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you recognize a mistake when you make it again. -- F. P. Jones

That's right: there are no GPL-ed drivers for nForce/nForce2 .
And for the USB problems, try usb-ohci or something...The other driver anyway. Both are included in kernel but only the ohci works with nForce2. _________________ Registred Linux user #191143!

I have an nforce2 board as well (A7N8X), and it uses the OHCI and the EHCI USB modules, but none of the UHCI ones. It's easy to conceive that the 8RDA+ (which I expect to have in a couple of days) would use the same. Maybe it would help to boot from the livecd and grep dmesg for HCI to see which ones it uses? |

Thanks, good idea. I tried the ohci module together with the ehci (which if i understand correctly is for usb 2.0 support?), and it works, sometimes For some reason it won't accept my usb mouse on all of the ports, saying it couldn't assign a device number. But anyway, I can usually plug it in on some other port and it works fine, so... _________________ Experience is that marvelous thing that enables you recognize a mistake when you make it again. -- F.
