I want to try Oracle on Gentoo but it seems that there is no ebuild for Oracle in Portage. My uncle said Oracle only work stable in Red Hat Enterprise and Centos which is identical to RH Enterprise. But i like Gentoo since it gives me more control in optimizing software for my comp. So my question is: Has anyone experienced problem when running/installing Oracle on Gentoo? |

if you use oracle professionnaly you might prefer to run it in a supported environment.
there are several distributions that are officially supported by oracle, gentoo isn't one of them.
and, depending of the version of oracle, different releases of a distribution are supported. |

I had. I'm "fighting" with Oracle 9 on x86, because I need this for work (Java applications which uses 9.2.0.6 Client libraries).
Probably it requires older libraries (libc.so).
I managed to install and run Oracle 10 on AMD64 and I'm currently running Oracle 10 Client on x86.
It seems that I successfully install a few months ego Oracle 9 Server on AMD64, but now I'm not sure ... (I can't install it anymore :I ).
TOra works without any problem (at least by now) with Oracle 10 Client and Server on other machine (XP Home).
My target is development environment, so I never bother myself to tune any of my Oracle server.
[EDIT 07.12.2005]
I've found something to install Oracle 9 (it solves __libc_wait error): https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-35340-start-25.html#1759028, but can't connect to Oracle Server on other machine (tnsping works, but neither sqlplus nor TOra can't connect: "ORA-12154: TNS: could not resolve service name").
[EDIT 07.12.2005 / 2]
Everything works now. It was problem relating to tnsnames.ora. I've copied it from Windows partition, so it has Windows EOL chars (13+10). When I've changes then to Linux specific (10) using dos2unix it started working. Permissions should be set correctly too. _________________ Lenovo ThinkPad R61 / C2D@2.6.24 / nVidia Quatro NVS 140M / 2 GB RAM |
