Gents,
I'm using Linux for 3 years now. Started with Redhat, switched to Mandrake 2 years ago. Lately I read/hear a lot of positive news about Gentoo. I want to try it. But I have a question is Gentoo LSB-compliant, are they working on being LSB-compliant or isn't LSB a goal? I wasn't able to find this information on their website. If I posted this message on the wrong forum I apologise upfront (I'm new to the Gentoo-community).
Regards,
John Herdy. |

Been a while since I checked out LSB, but last I looked, LSB thought that RPM was actually a good thing. So, assuming that's still the case, then I certainly hope Gentoo is not working towards LSB compatiblity.
..pause..
Just did a search of the mailing list archives and there's one post from drobbins that pretty much explains it all. In short, Gentoo is more focused on maintaining FHS compatibility, but will also try to maintain the "spirit" of LSB compatibility where feasible without sacrificing the precepts behind gentoo.
