...haven't tried it because I've been successfully using the ycarus ebuilds for the last month and a half... there's one for xmms2 from snapshot and a new one for xmms2 from git (which I haven't tried yet)... you could give those a shot if you haven't had any success with this ebuild...

I have xmms2 installed already was just curious at the success rate of these ebuilds......would be nice if they would make there way into portage so I could keep everything up to date ala gentoo way......hrm this git ebuild is quite interesting, I'll give it a try.

xmms2 dev checked out your ebuild and wanted me to pass this along to you(straight from irc conversation)..........

09:43 | tru : I should write packaging guidelines.
09:43 | tru : that does some things I feel scared about :)
09:43 | sacarasc : lol
09:43 || plb : lol
09:44 || plb : such as?
09:44 | tru : he runs scons and then scons with diffrent flags.
09:44 | tru : why?
09:44 | tru : and then he doesn't use scons install command.
09:44 | tru : and neglects to install the samplefile.
09:45 | tru : which I don't like since it will be refered by the first
playlist.
09:45 || plb : tell me what to say and I'll pass it along to him in the
forums ;]
09:46 | tru : just copy the above.
09:46 || plb : ok
09:47 | tru : if he has any problems with scons install, please contact us.
we could sort it out.

I have a little problem here (and I believe it's something not directly related to xmms2)... maybe someone could help me out:
Code:
xmms2 add /home/media/128/Animatrix/The\ Animatrix\ -\ 01\ -\ Peace\ Orchestra\ -\ Who\ Am\ I\ \(Animatrix\ Edit\).mp3
something went wrong when adding it to the playlist

And here's what xmms2d has to say about it:
xmms2d wrote:
2005-07-05 00:28 DEBUG: src/xmms/ipc.c:541: Client connect?!
2005-07-05 00:28 DEBUG: src/xmms/main.c:231: Client XMMS2 CLI with protocol version 1 sent hello!
2005-07-05 00:28 Error in query! (1) - no such table: Media

2005-07-05 00:28 DEBUG: src/xmms/ipc.c:426: disconnect was true!
2005-07-05 00:28 DEBUG: src/xmms/ipc.c:463: Destroying client!

I do believe I'm missing something... :cry:

*edit* other than that - every ebuild posted here seems to work fine.

Well, at least it sounds happy about its problems and about destroying itself :P

if you guys are having problems with xmms2 itself you should ask one of the devs in #xmms2 on freenode, they are quite helpful. :D

Can someone post ycarus's git.eclass? His site states he had a disk crash, and I get 404s when trying to download them.

Thanks

Heck, that happens from time to time even with stable packages. :)

Hi there!

I think I'm posting this in the right place. I'm having a bit of a problem with xmms2 and ycarus' (git version) ebuild. OK, so the build works just fine, and xmms2 will work OK after installation. The stumbling point comes when I try and use the rc script supplied.

I've looked around, the problem is the fact that xmms2d does not accept the -d option anymore, they've added a program called xmms2-launcher to daemonise xmms2. So, I think to myself, not too difficult, just edit the script. So I did that, changed xmms2d to xmms2-launcher and removed the -d option.
And I had some success. But, it seems I don't quite know what start-stop-daemon does; it seems to close the program it just started: xmms2 starts, then promptly stops.

Can anyone give me an alternative command to use? xmms2-launcher still has to be run as the user I believe, and that's the bit that I can't figure out. Doing something silly like su'ing to my user will of course stop the boot sequence (yep, I tried it!).

Cheers for any help, DarkWeaver.

Updated gxmms2-Makefile-gentoo for Ycarus gxmms2-git ebuild

Code:
# Makefile for gxmms2

#Installation directory
INSTALLPATH=/usr/bin

# Path to XMMS2 header files
XMMS2_INCLUDE_DIR=/usr/include/xmms2

ALLFILES=*.c *.h *.xpm Makefile README COPYING

GTK_INCLUDE = `pkg-config gtk+-2.0 --cflags`
GTK_LIB = `pkg-config gtk+-2.0 --libs`

FLAGS = -O2 -Wall -fPIC $(GTK_INCLUDE) -I${XMMS2_INCLUDE_DIR}
LIBS = $(GTK_LIB) -lxmmsclient -lxmmsclient-glib

LFLAGS =

CC = gcc $(CFLAGS) $(FLAGS)

OBJS = gxmms2src/gxmms2.o gxmms2src/statusdisplay.o gxmms2src/wejpconfig.o gxmms2src/wejpscroller.o xmms2ctrl/xmms2ctrl.o gtrackinfo/trackinfo.o gtrackinfo/gtrackinfo.o gmedialib/gmlplaylist.o gmedialib/gmladdfiles.o gmedialib/gmedialib.o gmedialib/gmlbrowser.o gmedialib/gmlsearch.o gmedialib/gmlplaylists.o sdecode/sdecode.o

projname := gxmms2-$(shell awk '/define VERSION_NUMBER/ { print $$3 }' gxmms2src/gxmms2.c )

gxmms2: $(OBJS)
   $(CC) $(OBJS) -o gxmms2 $(LFLAGS) $(LIBS)

dist: $(ALLFILES)
   -rm -rf $(projname)
   mkdir $(projname)
   cp -rl --parents $(ALLFILES) $(projname)
   tar chfz $(projname).tar.gz $(projname)
   -rm -rf $(projname)

clean:
   rm -f *.o core *.so* *.bak *~

gxmms2.o: gxmms2.c
trackinfo.o: trackinfo.c
xmms2ctrl.o: xmms2ctrl.c
gtrackinfo.o: gtrackinfo.c
gmedialib.o: gmedialib.c
gmlplaylist.o: gmlplaylist.c
gmlbrowser.o: gmlbrowser.c
gmlsearch.o: gmlsearch.c

install:
   install -D gxmms2 $(INSTALLPATH)/gxmms2

uninstall:
   -rm $(INSTALLPATH)/gxmms2

The latest git versions include subdirs for the different files is all. Oh yeah, I'm sure there was a better way to do that, I'm just not up to speed on the whole Makefile bit, made it work for me though.
