when i go to the /horde directory, i get this output.
Notice: Only variable references should be returned by reference in /usr/share/webapps/horde/2.2.8/htdocs/lib/Auth.php on line 80
Notice: Only variable references should be returned by reference in /usr/share/webapps/horde/2.2.8/htdocs/lib/Prefs.php on line 144
any ideas? i hear it has to do with the latest version of php or mod_php, but i have fought this thing enough to get it where it is, i dont want to use older versions now. |

I am busy fighting with some of the guys from horde, because they keep saying "this problem has been fixed" but in fact it hasn't.
There are more problems if you try download an attachment and stuff.
The best thing now would be to roll back your PHP version to 4.3.11 but yeah, I am with you on this one, i dont want to roll back.
Can anyone recommend a better webmail software solution I could use? |

Ok
With some hacking up of the horde code and the PEAR-DB I have managed to get Horde to work with PHP-4.4.0
Browse the webmail online, and when you get a references problem, go edit the code in that file.
You will be looking & signs.
For example:
function &_whatever($now)
remove the & sign.
or something like this:
$row = &$this->whatever();
Remove the &
If you get a line which looks file like this:
return $past;
then check the function which it's in, more than linely the function it's in starts with &
hope this helps |

i will check that out. rolling back php is not an option as this is in a live environment. if that is the best they can do, i should unmerge it and be done.
just installing horde borked the server due to the apache differences, yea it was a quick fix, but 30 minutes of downtime wasn't good. hopefully this will just work out. im really sick of messing with it. |

I had exactly this problem after upgrading my PHP install to 5.0.5 -- the docs I read said to remove E_NOTICE from error reporting. I did this in an .htaccess file, this had no effect on the symptoms tho; I ended up upgrading to Horde 3.0.6 + latest IMP rls; it works flawlessly now. _________________
