I think that the downloading code in portage needs an update. It should do the equivalant of an emerge -f in the background while compiling. There is no reason to waste 30 min to 1hr d/ling sources, while the computer could have done this earlier. It would also be nice if it did the md5 right after the d/l, and automaticly redownload if it is borked. Im sure that we have all gone to bed/school/work expecting that an emerge would be done, but when u return, the file got skrewed up so it stoped after the first emerge (this happened to me several times while i was tring to emerge kde ). Unfortunatly i dont no python, and wont have time to learn it untill this summer, otherwise I would do this my self. Here hopen this will make it by portage 2.0.50
Thanks to all, and to all a good night _________________ OH MY GOD! Kenny just killed Kenny!

This is on the waiting list and has been discussed a number of times. I think they just want to get 1.4 out the door first before trying to add more features. |

That still has the problem if a file fails the md5. Why dont they delete the file and try to d/l it again. it seems so esy, esp. right now while emergem only does one thing at a time. _________________ OH MY GOD! Kenny just killed Kenny!

I'm also looking for a replacement to wget (axel seems good but it doesn't auto-adapt and has other issues). I routinely get like 30KBytes/sec from those bandwidth misers.
I could have written a replacement by now if I didn't have all of this bloody work... |

One problem with deleting the file if the md5 doesn't match up is that you are assuming that the md5 is correct. |
