Hi,
I have a new gentoo install that is only a few days old, and I've noted this problem pretty early on. While I can continue to ignore it, since I've not seen this discussed on the forums anywhere, I thought I'd ask whether this is something to be concerned about. It only happens with -u world AFAICT.

Quote:

root@home kportage # emerge -pu world

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

I'm using sys-apps/portage-2.0.46-r11 (downgraded itself from r12) and have run 'emerge sync' a couple times.

Thanks.

Maybe your worldfile (/var/cache/edb/world) is corrupt. With portage-2.0.46-r12 a worldfile rebuilding script (/usr/sbin/regenworld) is installed.

The double slash can lead to parsing errors. Perhaps one of the variables has a '/' tacked on to it.

Avoid 2.0.46-r11.

Hi,

well, I did an sync this morning, and this time portage wanted to upgrade back to r12, so I upgraded it - the source was still on my system from the last time. :)

I ran regenworld and it added two or three entries, but did not clear up those invalid entries. As there is no --help or man page, I'll have to ignore the error for now.

Thanks for your help!

Can you also try "emerge regen"?

Hi,

I tried emerge regen and while it looked promising, the invalid db error message remains. :)

Thanks for the suggestion, though!

Does anyone have any new ideas as to how this may be cleared up? Should I be posting this as a bug?

Thanks! :)

The solution to this problem was found earlier this month in another thread.

To solve the problem:
Code:

rm /var/cache/edb/world
regenworld

Finally! No more of those stupid error messages I've had to look at everytime I emerged world (almost since the first day I installed Gentoo).

Hope this helps someone else!
