What is supposed to create the /dev/apm_bios device file?
I have apm compiled into the kernel.
I can't seem to find any reference to having to manually create this file so I assume that something is supposed to create it.
My /dev directory got trashed and I re populated it by copying the /dev directory from the stage 1 tarball. Is this likely to be missing some critical device files such as /dev/apm_bios?
As far as I have seen it is a sim link to /dev/misc/apm_bios which is also missing. _________________ --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---

Hi,
> /dev/apm_bios
found in your /var/log/XFree...log ?
Perhaps it would be created by the apmd?
I've also this error, but i don't care about it. All works fine;-)

I dont like to say things twice, but it has to be done:
1. apm will not appear in your /dev/ directory - there is no error
2. if your computer supports acpi and you have it compiled in your kernel apm wont be used... take a look at

You don't have to say something twice;-)
Do a
grep apm /var/log/XFree86.0.log
an post the output;-)

(WW) Open APM failed (/dev/apm_bios) (No such file or directory)
ok, you are right, but my kernel disables apm because I have acpi (so this is not an error):
Code: |
dmesg | grep apm
apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x03 (Driver version 1.16)
apm: overridden by ACPI.

guess Im quite useless here... sorry guys _________________ I'm really wondering what Lovechild is doing nowadays... |

I get the message too, but I don't have APM or ACPI compiled into my kernel. My CRT doesn't suspend properly in X, so I'm looking to get this working.
My plan is to compile APM into the kernel, and get the /dev/apm_bios working, to make X happy. Refer to the following:
