|
|
I am fairly familiar with linux, i am trying to move from fadora to gentoo, but i have tried to install on both an ultrasparc (dual 64bit processors) and an AMD64.
The problem comes at stage 6a chrooting
setting the mirrors and rsync works fine
copy the resolv.conf works fine
mounting proc seems fine (i can see the various devices)
but as soon as i try to chroot i get the message exec format error.
I hope it is me reading the instructions wrong, this cant be a bug in both versions can it ? |

Sounds like you're using a stage file that doesn't match the architecture of your cpu. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

it may have been possible with the amd64, although i used the amd64 directory and the latest version.
the sparc version is off disk and is specifically sparc, so unlikely. thanks for the speedy reply though |

Ah, a sparc problem. Well, we have a very nice forum especially for sparc.
Moved from Installing Gentoo to Gentoo on Sparc. _________________ Please add [solved] to the initial post's subject line if you feel your problem is resolved. Help answer the unanswered

I'm getting the same error. I'm using a stage 2 file from the amd64 directory with an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ |
