I am installing Gentoo on a low-end system for desktop (gaming and development) use. I have two other systems that I am using as Gentoo servers that are on an OpenMosix cluster using the Openmosix-sources from Gentoo.
I would like to have both the Openmosix kernel and the gaming-sources kernel installed on this low-end system. For my gaming and goofing around, I would use the gaming kernel. For development and system maintenance, I would use the Openmosix kernel.
It is my understanding that I can emerge and compile both with the resulting kernel images appropriately named and control the loading of the kernels with Grub.
1) Is there an easy way to do this so that the Openmosix user utilities don't attempt to join the cluster while running the gaming kernel?
2) If the openmosix utilities did try to connect to the cluster, I am assuming they would not be successful when running the gaming kernel. Would the failure to connect to the cluster while under the gaming kernel hose anything or cause any problems with the gaming environment?
Any assistance would be appreciated... I would like to iron out my plan for install prior to setting all this up since I have a P233MMX I will be doing this on (yeah, I know, I know)... |

I regularly switch between a "normal" and an openmosix kernel.
In my experience, the openmosix RC-scripts just fail at startup when i boot a normal kernel, and cause no further problems except the few error messages at bootup. |
