|
|
I got this AlphaStation that seem to freeze when loading the kernel from the 2005.1 LiveCD
I tested with both the 2.6 and 2.4 kernel but with the same result.
The last line printed before it stops responding:
Code: | aboot: starting kernel /boot/gentoo-2.4 with arguments root=/dev/ram0 init=/linuxrc looptyoe=zisofs noudev devfs dokeymap cdroot |
I am new to the Alpha platform so that anything can be wrong (like SRM environment variables and such).
I have also tested a Debian netinstall and FreeBSD 5.4 with similar problems (Kernels seems to be loading into the memory and than the system stops).
It can boot some things:
* Boot with Debian install floppies.
* After that Debian is installed it can boot from the harddrive.

This is a complete shot in the dark, but have you tried updating your SRM to the latest version for your machine? There may be unresolved issues with the version you are using. |

Have you tried an older version like 2004 ? I´m not completely sure but i think the kernel on 2005.1 needs at least an ev5 and you´ve got an 21064 wich is an ev4. |

There's nothing in the installcd kernels requiring ev5 or greater but the 2.6 kernel is known to have problems on some models. The 2.4 kernel works on all models afaik. |

Well, I solved it! It was the framebuffer that was guilty!
Disabled the framebuffer and now it runs just fine. |
