|
|
On Saturday, April 12th, 2003, the University of Southern Mississippi Linux User's Group will be holding a Gentoo Saturday. The day will be a time for people interested in Gentoo to get together and go through the install process to help out newbies and answer questions about Gentoo. It should be a lot of fun as we will be showing off stuff too, like the perfomance boosts in the new 2.5.66 kernel. This will NOT be an installfest, so don't show up thinking we will install Gentoo for you...That is NOT happening. We will answer questions and if you are stuck try to help.
The event will be held on the campus of The University of Southern Mississippi in the Bobby Chain Technology Building, Room 202 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
USM is located just off of U.S. Highway 49 and Hardy Street in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
A more detailed announcement can be found from the main Gentoo Saturday site which is: http://www.99b.org/lug/gentoo.html
If there is anyone in the area who is interested in coming out to this event, we strongly encourage you to do so! If you would like more information, you may ask it in this post or pm me. Please limit private messages to asking directions or things that do not apply to everyone.
I will probably go ahead and write a review when this is over of how this thing went, and maybe after reading that, some of you will be inspired to do things like this in your LUG or town!

Hmmm, that's a good idea. I know a few people who probably wouldnt mind partaking in something like this. Of course being extremely far away from MS I'd have to throw one here in my town. |

If you do decide to throw an event like this, then post it here on the forums. I was very surprised when our event showed up in the Gentoo Weekly Newsletter under the International Events Calendar! Thanks to whoever does the GWN for including our event! We really appreciate it

Too bad I didn't know about it sooner or I would have driven down from Memphis. My brothers go to school in Clinton and I haven't seen them in a while. Oh well, maybe next time. _________________ -SmokesLikeaPoet

So, how did it go? I'd like to know what all went on and how your event was organized. I may want to do the same think with my LUG here. I would have access to the Linux lab at Southwest TN Comm. College where we have our "Vampire" meetings. We had our install fest not too long ago, but as you mentioned on your website, a full Gentoo install isn't something you can pull off during a 4 hour install fest. _________________ -SmokesLikeaPoet
