What are your compile/use flags? What ebuild where you emerging when it failed on qt?

No special flags, just default optimalisation for my cpu ( PIII )

Try looking at some of the techniques used to troubleshoot qt-3.1.0-r1 failed.. I know it's not the same version of qt, but at least it's a good place to start trying things.
