You don't know how nice that is to finally see someone document a solution to getting framebuffer working on I810 chipsets.

Thank you, you just made my day.

Thanx, worked like a charm!

Before that, I would get a kernel panic with the i810fb driver...

How come, when I do the same with a i815 chipset (using i810 modules), the resolutions is still bad in console (about 700x???) But there is a nice little tux in the upper left corner. And dmesg reports a succeful i810fb load. But using a wrong resolution?

This works for me
its basically verbatim from "/usr/src/linux-2.6.14-gentoo-r5/Documentation/fb/intel810.txt"

video=i810fb:vram:2,xres:1024,yres:768,bpp:8,hsync1:30,hsync2:55,vsync1:50,vsync2:85,accel,mtrr

yes config is only 2mb vram. but i mostly ssh to the server.

Has anyone gotten "stranger" resolutions such as 1400x1050 to work yet?

Btw, thanks for posting your kernelparams, I'll give it a try!

fwiw, i have used a similar approach -- just follow the fb documentation in the kernel -- and i810 has worked fine.

maybe some people just don't know that they could read the kernel documentation files and follow the examples. :?
