I have been searching the 'net to try and find a solution to my problem and discovered a few people here have Linux running on a Netra X1. I have questions for this special group of people:
How did you all achieve this?
What build?
Any special configs that arent in the install docs?
Do I need a new firmware for the Netra X1?
I have a Netra X1 with 256 MB ram and 40GB Seagate HDD. I plugged a CDROM into it for install purposes.
I followed the Gentoo Install docs to the letter (after some battling to get the network interfaces to work) and after all that, when it is rebooted it dies. Complaining about filesystem errors and the like.
Debian on the other hand will boot the installer's console based GUI, and then complain there is no CDROM drive. I think it has issues detecting the IDE interface properly as there is no HDA listed under /dev
I am just wondering if you experienced any difficulties with this install on your X1, or if you can share any pearls of wisdom with me?
Thanks!

If you could post the exact errors you see when you boot Gentoo on the X1, that'd go a long way to helping us help you |

Sounds like somthing is missing from your kernel compile, as has been said error messages would be nice
Some Stuff that may help:
Make sure you dont use ReiserFS (go for EXT3 instead)
Make sure you DO have a /boot as the first partition of the first disk and about 15Meg or so
hope that helps a little. _________________ Toady

I'd be interested to know what CD drive you actaully got to work on an X1.
I tried every single cd/dvd drive I own and none of them would let me boot from CD.
Eventually netbooted from and existing x86 gentoo box using Gentoo image and just followed the install instructions _________________ Help ! Help ! I'm being repressed |
