I'm having trouble starting apache 1.3.27. I'm getting this error Code: | [alert] apache: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName | I tried changing the servername variable in the .conf but apache still doen't start. have any ideas?? |

It might have something to do with naming your machine in /etc/hosts (i.e. 127.0.1.1 localhost server.name), but I don't remember for sure. |

Yes. I believe that this is a problem with your /etc/hosts file.
You should have something like this:

127.0.0.1 yourserver.yourdomain yourserver localhost

Hi,
I had the same problem (apache claiming that no servername found).
After configuring the machine name, apache didn't start either.
But after having an entry like
IP-Addr FullHostName HostName
in my /etc/hosts apache started without problems.
