cfdisk should be on the install cd, I guess this is kinda lame because fdisk is easy to use once you learn it but I think since gentoo is getting really really popular it should come included with cfdisk and fdisk on the boot cd. it would be easy to do. Also I think they should have more documentation on how to get AA font s to work with all window managers.

thanks

I think we should stick with fdisk, as it can act as some sort of filter. If you can't figure out how to partition your hard drive with it, you probably shouldn't be running Gentoo. :D

Furthermore, if partitioning becomes more friendly, people will wonder why the rest of the install (and later maintenance) isn't as friendly. You have to poke around in the command line all the time with Gentoo; why eliminate it here?

Because selecting options in the kernel is significantly more involved than partitioning. Besides, you are not forced to use menuconfig (try "make config"), nor is it included in the install CD (the stage 3 tarballs yes, the kernel tarballs yes, but not the install environment).

Folks, we've had our little fdisk vs. cfdisk flame war already. Nobody won, everyone lost. No need to re-hash it here.

locking thread.
