v-gear landisk running gentoo?

Hi,

my new bought http://vgear.com's landisk, which BTW is unusable with linux clients and even buggy when used by windows clients, seems to have a gentoo system running.

I have nmapped the landisk and my running gentoo box, and as nmap does not state the operating system properly, it prints out tcp signatures which look both pretty the same:

The LanDisk does not run Gentoo or any type of Linux AFAIK. There are a lot of references to C: and A: in the device. I have absolutely no idea what it runs, so it could be Linux, just very obfuscated.

If it did run Linux then it would work a lot better and be a much more flexible device :P

Try the firmware update at vgear.com/cs/support as it fixes a number of problems.

Says that it does run Linux. Whether or not it runs "Gentoo" is an unknown quantity. I would be intersted to know what version of Linux it does run, and if it does, where they publish their source code.

I have just spoken to V-Gear, who told me that the LanDisk does not run Linux, but µC/OS II.

I will see if I can at least get the source to that, as it would be cool to modify it :) Or make it run Linux :P

Perhaps that's an application cross-compiled from an i686-pc-linux-gnu host? As for getting the source to that RTOS, good luck... I don't think it likely, considering they're wanting you to hand over your personal details before they even let you see the price list.

Also, if it's one of the more exotic CPUs mentioned on their site, then Linux may be an impossibility. If it's a MIPS, x86 or ARM board, then you may have some joy... but I don't know of ports of Linux to the Motorola HC11 for instance. ;-)
