|
|
Dear All,
I'm suffering from a weird disk problem when trying to install gentoo on a sparc4 (netbooting)
Everything goes well upto untarring the stage1-sparc-2005.0.tar.bz2, no matter for stage1 / 2 /3 at some point it gives:
Code: |
./usr/sparc-unknown-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/3.3.5/sparc-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc-3.3.5
tar: Unrecognised file type
gentoo gentoo#
|
I tried about everything and now completely qlueless, df / fdisk -l looks like this:
Code: |
Filesystem 1kblocks used available use mounted on
/dev/sda1 768904 33720 696124 5% /mnt/gentoo
|
Code: |
Device Flag Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target3/lun0/part1 0 1550 781299 83 Linux native
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target3/lun0/part2 u 1550 2036 244944 82 Linux swap
/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target3/lun0/part3 0 2036 1026144 5 Whole disk
|
After the untar it gives:
Code: |
Filesystem 1kblocks used available use mounted on
/dev/sda1 768904 768904 631600 13% /mnt/gentoo
|
So it can't be an space issue right, i tried to untar the tarball on my x86 which goes fine so the archive is fine aswell. If i bunzip2 first and than untar it gives the error aswell.
Anybody suggestions? Thanks in advance. |

Hello Weeve,
I used the gentoo-sparc-1.4_rc4-20040102.tftpboot image, i read some other post about the old tar version so i tried netbooting the the gentoo-sparc-2005.0-20050413.tftpboot image. Succesfully i could untar the image, i wonder why this hasn't been reported as a bug before?
However i now suffer from diskspace issue; when i tried to untar portage it gives me out of diskspace, why is gentoo using upto more than 1gig even before properly installed?
Can i skip the portage section somehow?
Thanks. |

Stage 1 shouldn't use anywhere near that amount of space. Make sure you download and unpack the stage1 file onto your mounted disk partition or otherwise you will run out of disk space in short order.
What does your partition layout look like? |

Thanks for you reply Weeve.
Disktable looks like this:
flag start end blocks id system
/dev/sda1 0 1705 859320 83 linux native
/dev/sda2 1705 2036 166824 82 linux swap
/dev/sda3 0 2036 1026144 4 whole disk
df:
size used avail. use mnted on
/dev/ram0 3.6M 3.5M 0 100% /
/dev/sda1 826M 519M 264 66% /mnt/gentoo
now this is weird as the portage is taking so long while it's only 19M? the stage1 gets unpacked allright, why is just stage1 and portage allready taking upto more than 519MB?
Thnx |

Anybody? Even after fdisk'ing it hard with sectors and heads it still gives me "out of disk space".
How much diskspace is required for stage1 & portage? The hdd is about 1gig.
Thanks |
