|
|
Hello
This is probably a newbie question.
I reasently installed Gentoo on one of my computers. I been using Debian before.
If I you read on www.distrowatch.com you can see that gentoo has a unstable, stable and 1.4rc3.
So my question is:
Can I modify portage to download and install unstable packages?
In Debian you can easily choose stable unstable and testing.
Does Gentoo have the same?
If not, any tips how to easy install XFree 4.3 on my gentoo 1.4rc3?
Thanks!

First: Yes you can can modify portage to get and install unstable packages.
How to do this is explained in the comments of /etc/make.conf or these manuals:
or
I believe the manual page is not as updated as the --help option though.
That being said what you have to do is to set ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" in /etc/make.conf if you are running an x86 system.
If you want to install a single unstable package you can fire this command:
Code: |
env ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge <package>
|
I hope this clarifys a bit. |
