CDROM mount only having 8.3 filenames

Hey guys.. Whenever I mount a CD-ROM, all of the filenames are only showing in a 8.3 format. I have ISO9660, MS Joilet, and Transparent decompression all built into kernel (not modules). Why would this be happening? I've verified on a Windows machine that the filenames do not appear as only 8.3

For example, on my Warcraft III CD, I get these files under linux:
(mac)bn1.htm
(mac)bne.htm
(pc)bne1.htm

etc.... any help is appreciated.
