Hi,
I know there is a HOW-TO on setting up LVM for your root disk when installing on an Intel machine (http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Install_Gentoo_on_an_LVM2_root_partition), but I know that Sun has a different bootstrap process than Intel. Is there a similar HOW-TO on installing Gentoo on Sparc with a LVMed root partition? Can Sparc boot off a LVMed disk?
Thanks,

I don't have any experience with sun hardware, but can't you just have a seperate /boot partition and perhaps an initrd with the lvm utilities on it, and then pivot_root to the real root partition? |

Actually the Sparc handbook says not to use a boot partition, so that's out of the question . |

Hmm... well I guess I'd say just try it, and if it blows up, at least you know another way not to do it, lol
I think you need the lvm utilities in order to set up the volumes for mounting, so the best way to do it would be a small boot partition to load the kernel and an initrd, and then transfer over to the real root once it's set up. Otherwise I don't know how else it could be done, short of a boot floppy or boot cd. |
