I would even go so far as to suggest that you link this thread to some form of communication with the Vida devs and request feedback from their perspective. I would be very surprised to hear if they did not concur with the majority of my central points. The only thing I am suggesting is that users be provided with resources when available, and then try and put them in a position where they are able to make reasoned determinations based on that knowledge. Things are difficult enough without taking steps to provide aid when it is beneficial to everyone involved. | Can't let it go huh, Joe? It's okay, you can't help it. But I do like the way you change your point here at the end to sound more reasonable ("The only thing...everyone involved."). Had that been the way you started the dialog, we'd have been far more in agreement.
Your suggestion to ask the Vidalinux developers what they thought was on my mind too. In fact, I did so prior to your last response. I have not yet recieved a response from them.
No doubt you'll need to have the last word; I understand. _________________ Keith Kastorff |

My request contained a link to this thread and this text: Quote: | I'm very interested in this person's assertation that Vidalinux developers do not recommend updating a Vidalinux system (emerge world updates) because of the risk of instability caused by updating system config files. Is this a position of the Vidalinux development team? Has it been so in the past? I'm curious, because I haven't seen any reference to this position, nor does it seem to be held by this forum's staff.

The response: Quote: | That's ridiculous if we think that why we have created VLOS based in portage ? Ask you that question. |

St. Joe, where you read about vida developers saying not to do emerge -u world?
if this broke your vidalinux install probably was because of etc-uptade or something, I have my vidalinux fresh installed and esync && emerge -u world everything works fine. |
