Has anyone had any luck building a 2.6.12-gentoo-r1 kernel on a SunBlade 150? If so are you willing to share your /usr/src/linux/.config? I haven't been able to have a successful kernel build on my SunBlade 150 since 2.4.29 and I have a feeling I am probably just missing something. The 2.6.12 kernel hangs on boot with a Kernel Panic - not syncing: VFS unable to mount rootfs on unknown block. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. |

I got the 2.6.12-gentoo-r4 kernel to compile and boot. The only problem that remains is the kernel driver for the Mach64 chipset in the Sun Blade 150 is really bad. The screen is really choppy and stays that way when you launch X. Also the internal speaker lets off a nice long beep when you try to shutdown or reboot the system. Not sure what the problem is but I'll keep looking into it. |

Out of curiosity, what version of X are you using with your Mach64? Would you be willing to try out the 6.8.99.X releases for me to let me know if they hang your system? I'm trying to narrow down a problem (see bug #89801). _________________ Gentoo Developer: amd64, sparc, sound, toolchain, accessibility |

eradicator- I am using xorg-x11-6.8.2-r2 on the SB150. I can install 6.8.99.X. Is it already in portage, if not can you post a link to the ebuild or the source. |

Yep, it's in portage. You'll need to unmask it by adding it to /etc/portage/package.unmask
I'd recommend doing 'quickpkg xorg-x11' first, so youu don't have to recompile 6.8.2 if youu need to come back... _________________ Gentoo Developer: amd64, sparc, sound, toolchain, accessibility |

eradicator- I am working on building xorg-x11-6.8.99.14, it will probably take a good portion of the day since the SB150 has a very slow IDE bus and only 256MB ram. I'll let you know how it works out. |

eradicator- The build has finished emerging much faster than I thought it would, probably because I did not have X running. I have X up and running now and xorg-x11-6.8.99.14 runs at least as fast as the xorg-x11-6.8.2 if not faster. The colors look fine and I haven't noticed any problems. If I do notice anything quirky I will post it. |
