can wxGTK-2.6.1 and wxGTK-2.4.2 coexist?

Problems with emerge or ebuilds? Have a basic programming question about C, PHP, Perl, BASH or something else?

can wxGTK-2.6.1 and wxGTK-2.4.2 coexist?

Hello,
I am developing an application using wxGTK (wxwidgets is great) and I would like to continue to develop it using wxwidgets-2.6.1 due to some enhancements. I noticed that wxGTK-2.6.1 has a new slot so it wont uninstall wxGTK-2.4.2. I would like to install 2.6.1 to develop my application, but I want the system to remain 2.4.2.
So, what are my options? shall I emerge 2.6.1 and don't care? the system will now? should I compile it and install it by myself, and then use it from a non-system location (ie my /home?), I would like to compile statically (so I can distribute the executable, sorry folks, closed source here  )...

What do you recomend?

TIA.

You can emerge 2.6.1 and it'll co-exist fine. You'll have a /usr/bin/wx-config-2.6 in addition to the old style 2.4 wx*-config(s). /usr/bin/wx-config-2.6 is a symlink to a config in /usr/lib/wx/config

ebuilds use the wxwidgets eclass to figure out which version an app needs.

Cool!

Now all I hav to figure out is how do I get a static build of my application!
