Yesterday I installed gentoo on my HP Omnibook XE3L-gf. Everything works fine, except rebooting and shuting down:
On "reboot" and "shutdown -h now" the system gets to "Remounting remaining filesystems readonly", then the Cursor stops blinking and nothing else happens. There is no reaction whatsoever, i have to shutdown via on/off-button.
I've installed the newest Bios (m1.14 to my knowledge), and I stumbelede across some threads where people had experienced problems with pcmcia support, so i excluded it from the kernel (2.6.12-gentoo-r4) and the default runlevel.
The interesting thing is, that once the system freezes, the Fans start running at top-speed, so i figuered it could be some power-managment problem. I've played arround with several kernel-configurations but nothing seems to help and I must admit, I'm not really familiar with this power-managment stuff, so I dont really know what to look for.....
Has anyone had the same problem or any idea what could cause this? This problem is really somewhat annoying and I cant help but think that its something very simple, but I just cant find it right now.....
When I installed gentoo from the live-cd, the first reboot worked fine, so there has got to be a solution I guess....
Thanks in advance
Klunz
