USB MOUSE SUPPORT

hi there,


I've completed the gentoo install and wanted to install/configure X with kde.

My problem is that I have an USB mouse (Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer) and that I don't now how to configure it.

I also don't have /dev/mouse

Can someone help me how to fixt that ?

I've been mucking about, trying to get my keyspan four port usb->serial converter working, which worked like a champ under slackware. I'm missing any /dev/usb/tts/* entries and in general, things aren't working.

I'm not going to bother you with the generic "how do I get modules working" bs... but I would like it if you could point me to a good resource for understanding /etc/devfsd.conf? I've read the man pages, I've read some (useless) stuff online.

For reference, as fas as I can tell, the modules are loading, everything is happy, I just don't have /dev entries to open. Also, I manually made /dev/usb/tts/0->3 but they don't seem to actually *work*. And, finally, under slackware all I had to do was compile in the keyspan drivers and usb support, and voila /dev/ttyUSB0->3 just worked.

As much as I love Gentoo, this is rather a showstopper, since 99% of what I do on my computer is robotics related programming, and if I can't talk to my hardware, what's the point?

Do you have any suggestions? I'm asking here, because you sound like you know what you're talking about ;)

I never had to change a thing in devfsd.conf to get my USB mouse working... I have an MS intellimouse and I'm using /dev/input/mice and the ImPS/2 protocol.

Did you guys bother reading this guide before posting these questions?
