I have recently noticed that ssmtp is acting weird. Specifically, I do not get any email from any cron jobs. I think I have it narrowed down to some permissions problem, but it doesn't really make sense.
Code: |
jbert@epoch jbert $ /usr/sbin/ssmtp jbert@___.com
foo
jbert@epoch jbert $ sudo /usr/sbin/ssmtp jbert@___.com
bar
ssmtp:
|
I get the 'foo' message, but not the 'bar' message. The ssmtp: line looks like there is an error found, but there is no error message given. I see the same blank line in my /var/log/mail/... and /var/log/pwdfail/... logs.
I see the same log whether I sudo the ssmtp command, sudo a shell script, or if cron runs something as root. I don't understand why root's cron jobs would have this problem, or why sudo would have this problem.
Anyone have any ideas? I could unmerge ssmtp and emerge sendmail, but that's really overkill for what I need. |
