|
|
As of xscreensaver 4.22 it seems a new button is introduced for new logins.
If you click this "new login" button, it spawns a flexi gdm xserver on a different VT. My problem is that my ATI card goes monkey crazy when this happens. I'd like to disable this button so no one can come up to my locked laptop click the button and corrupt my display.
Anyone know how to disable this button from appearing on locked xscreensaver displays? |

Apparantly this ebuild doesnt listen to the fact that i have the gnome flag disabled. They seem to think that having gdm means you want the user manager portion enabled in the build:
| Code: | use gnome || has_version gnome-base/gdm \
&& myconf="${myconf} --with-login-manager" \
|| myconf="${myconf} --without-login-manager" |
My workaround is to replace this block with:
| Code: | if use gnome; then
myconf="${myconf} --with-login-manager"
else
myconf="${myconf} --without-login-manager"
fi
|
And then throw it into a local portage overlay directory as xscreensaver-4.22-r2.ebuild |

| Remove new-login flag from make.conf or add -new-login to use flags |

I just updated xscreensaver and it is now gone from my gnome menu where it has been for many moons. It appears to work I guess. All it does is blank my screen. I can't get to it to set the screensaver to what I wish. It appears to be lost someplace....................... I think the desktop conf file is gone and I don't know how to recreate it.
TIA for any IDEAS |

| Perhaps completely unmerge it and then merge it again? |

| Oldtag, I have the same issue too... Looks as though xscreensaver either doesn't create a .desktop file or portage doesn't copy one over. Still investigating though... |

Looks like the preferences thing is related to this bug:
https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=97839
I have the same exact issue described there and i verified I have the capplet files in the those directories.

Ok I just decided to rebuild the .desktop file for it. I tested, and it works. So here it is. | Code: | [Desktop Entry]
Name=XScreensaver
Comment=Screensaver Utility
Exec=xscreensaver-demo
Icon=xscreensaver.xpm
Terminal=0
Type=Application
Categories=GNOME;Application;Settings;
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;
|
Do a | Code: | | nano -w /usr/share/applications/xscreensaver.desktop | Copy and paste the code into the empty file. Save the file and you should be good to go. It will show up under Desktop > Preferences |
