hi everyone.

today i found out that my local hostname (darkLair.net) was reserved and couldn't be used by my local network. the problem seems to be, that i restarted my system and was already connected to the internet when doing so (due to a running router). firstly my proftpd screamed about, not finding my ip, then my X wouldn't recognize my hostname and last but not least my xmodmap file couldn't be loaded because it got the wrong ending.

so... i checked what the problem _really_ could be? some domainname service provider (i hate those guys, they have no right to reserver ANYTHING) has choosen to reserve my hostname. so... what can i do about this?

You need to set up your internal dns (or hosts files) to use that domain. Just because someone has it registered darklair.net doesn't mean you can't use it internally (and ONLY internally). You just have to make sure the names resolve before any external query is made.
