Has anyone been successful in getting a Matrox G450 PCI to work in a PC164 Alpha?
I think it may be due to the PCI bridge chip that's on the G450 PCI card. If I put an old Matrox Millenium II in the PC164, it shows up as PCI:0:6:0 but if I put the G450 in, I see a PCI bridge chip at PCI:0:6:0 and a "G450 AGP" at PCI:2:0:0
SRM recognizes the G450 just fine, Linux boots just fine, the G450 works just fine with or without Framebuffer console turned on. BUT- when I try to start X, I get a signal 11 and it quits. I've tried adding a PCI bus entry to the device section, I'm using the correct framebuffer options in the xorg.conf when the frame buffer is turned on, but I just cant get it to work. BTW this is Gentoo 2005.0 xorg 6.8.2
Any thoughts would be appreciated! _________________ Compaq XP1000 Alpha EV67 667Mhz w/ 2GB ECC

I've been having similar issues on my alphaserver 800 with a range of cards including a matrox g450 card. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to solve it |

Well, I've discovered it's not the PCI bridge chip that's the problem. I just tried swapping my G450 PCI for a G200 PCI, and I get the exact identical results. The G200 does not have a bridge chip.
When I run startx I get about a thousand of these lines:
Elf_RelocateEntry() Unsupported relocation type 10
Elf_RelocateEntry() Unsupported relocation type 10
Elf_RelocateEntry() Unsupported relocation type 10
And then I get this:
Elf_RelocateEntry() Unsupported relocation type 10

*** be the reason for the server aborting.
Fatal server error:

You can get rid of the relocation errors by adding the dlloader USE flag to /etc/make.conf and then recompiling Xorg. |

Thanks griffy, that did work and got rid of those messages!!
I still get a signal 11 when I try to startx with the x.org mga server.
I did try the x.org fbdev server and it works perfectly, but is not accelerated. I need XV extension for video.
I'm experimenting with directfb right now (directfb.org) to see if that will work on alpha. Directfb appears to work best with Matrox cards so if it works on Alpha, it just might do the trick for me.... _________________ Compaq XP1000 Alpha EV67 667Mhz w/ 2GB ECC
