|

Hi there,
I just installed XFree 4.3 with xfree-drm for my ati mobility radeon 9000. Now I get at least 2000 fps with glxgears. Acceptable for the moment.
But the problem is: it stucks circa every second for a very short time. It's not long, but really noticable. Even in self written OpenGL progs (using GLUT) this problem occurs. That's quite annoying...
Did anybody exprienced the same problem? Since it's quite runny despite of these apparent stucks I just don't have a clue what it could be...
Thanks,
Marcel |

It's probably just the OS task switching. Glxgears is just being forced to pause for a sec while another task gets to run. This'll usually happen if a higher priority program is wanting to use the CPU too. If you want to see what I mean, just fire up 10 instances of glxgears. You'll probably be able to see a pattern of pauses as each instance gets it's share of the cpu.

Hi.
Thank you for your answers. I didn't have any computing processes in the background. But meanwhile I recompiled my system (I wanted to optimize to my new processor) and now I works great... I really don't understand since a bad optimisation should decrease the fps and not stagnate glxgears...
Well, now it works. Thank you for your answers however.
Bye,
