|
I have noticed several times that packages have been released to the '~x86' profile before the packages have been allowed to propagate throughout the mirror network of ftp://yourserver/gentoo/distfiles and am concerned that this is not ideal, from the "back-end" perspective.
There may not be very many adventurous souls running the "unstable" tree, but I wanted to at least raise the point for discussion.
At the moment, I will, it seems, be getting the whole set of kde-3.1.1 packages directly from ftp.kde.org. If there are ever several thousand gentooites running '~x86' all unleashed at once on a server for what is a large package, I will pitty the server admin, as well as the download times for the users.
Having said all that, of course I want it as soon as possible, but that's not the point I am trying to make. I would be prepared for a slight extra delay to distribute the load.
Regards,
-edit- It appears kde-3.1.1 went straight to 'stable', which I hope amplifies the point. |
