** (rhythmbox:29538): CRITICAL **: how to remove plugins?

(rhythmbox:29538): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: Factory for `id3demuxbin' has no type. This probably means the plugin wasn't found because the registry is broken. The plugin GStreamer was looking for is named 'mad' and is expected in file '/usr/lib/gstreamer-0.8/libgstmad.so'. The registry for this plugin is located at '/var/lib/cache/gstreamer-0.8/registry.xml'
Segmentation fault

I can usually find something on google or the forums but i've hit a wall on this one. I had similar problems with totem so moved back to mplayer, but i really want to use rhythmbox. Im using the following packages.

media-libs/gst-plugins-0.8.8-r2
media-sound/rhythmbox-0.8.8-r1

Does anybody have these versions working together? If not what versions DO you have working?

Come on, give me something to work on at least:!:

hmm theres a plethora of gst-plugins to install. You could start off with emerging gst-plugins-mad. Try running "emerge -s gst-plugins-" and it will givey ou a huge list of plugins for gst-plugins to install.

Have you tried an "emerge gst-plugins" ? Other necessary plugins are emerged with this one ?

I've already installed gst-plugins. I have also completely removed all gst stuff then re-emerged with the same result.

Dont worry about it. If I need a solution I will post on the gstreamer forums, but I haven't got time for it at the moment.

cheers

I will always reply for other people which might been interested. I had the same problem : the cause was that two concurrent version of gstreamer was installed (the same way you could have two different version of the kernel at the same time):

moi@gentoo ~ $ emerge unmerge gstreamer -p

>>> These are the packages that I would unmerge:

media-libs/gstreamer
selected: 0.6.4 0.8.9-r3
protected: none
omitted: none

>>> 'Selected' packages are slated for removal.
>>> 'Protected' and 'omitted' packages will not be removed.

I unmerged the old version and reemerged rhythmbox and gst-plugins, then all was solved

Nope, that isnt it. There isn't anything on google or gentoo bugzilla so I can only imagine it is something I have missed.

Code:

>>> These are the packages that I would unmerge:

Here is my emerge info if it's useful

Are you by any chance using LDFLAGS or is your system prelinked?

Sorry I meant to mention that gstreamer was the same. I saw somewhere else to do the gst-plugins as well.

merlin-TC: I did my first stage 2 install with this setup :D but didn't set any ldflags. I havent prelinked either.

Im thinking about restarting from scratch from a stage 3. Ive got a few other oddities that I want to get rid of that I think may be to do with things i've messed with. Im only learning at the moment so ive been messing a lot.

If I get it fixed before I start reinstalling then i'll post what I did.
