I am using dual head now, but I do NOT want xinerama:

I want to be able to have a different desktop in each screen, so that when I change thhe current desktop of E, it changes the view only on one screen, and apps of other one keep the same.

It looks like e17 can show up the menu (left click ) on both screens, but apps/windows are always shown in the same screen, the left one. When the mouse is right, the menus show up properly, but apps are open left. When the mouse is still right, the keyboard is till used by the left part. So that the only way to change the right desktop is to use the Pager.

For e16, it is worse: I can only use menus in one screen. Any idea how to use properly both screens WITHOUT xinerama ?

I have been said that the problem may be to 'switch the active screen'. I dont know how to do that.

If I run two different X servers, I dont know how I am going to use the mouse and kbd in only one screen at a time :/

Any body got a NON XINERAMA dual head conf ?

please feel free to past your xorg.conf ...

THX.

AFAIK E17 is not ready for use in a "non-xinerama" dual head setup. Apps just only start on the primary screen just as you describe. If you find a way around that I'd be interested to hear. BUT, if you start E17 in a xinerama enabled dual head setup, it will just do what you want. You can independently switch the desktop of the right or left screen. Just check it out. Most modules can be shown on only one of the two screens though. But they don't usually add very needed functionality anyway.

For your e16 problem. I don't know. I have got it working in dual head with or without xinerama without problems.

I cant believ it dude; a long time ago, I wrote this: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-337028.html

to start grabbing at ideas ...

I received my 2nd screen today, and at last, I accepted to try xinerama with Enlightenment.

using e16: bah, like I feared, one single large desktop, spread over 2 screens ... if you hit ALT+F3 ... that changes moth screens.

e16 without Xinerama: bah ... cant move any mindow from screen to screen.

e17 with xinerama: my dream made reality:
- two different desktops
- ALT+Fx only changes the view of the desktop where the mouse is, not the otre(s) one(s)
- can enlarge a window over both screens
- can move a window from screen to screen

it is a bit as if I had two computers, with two e17, but with ability to move window from screen to screen. It is obviously NOT what xinerama users are used to ... since e17 tracks in which screen the mouse is, and switches the desktop only 'per screen'

About modules: Engage can be put on any of the 8 edges (2 screens = 8 sides),
Eclock can be put any place,
Snow falls on both,
Flame burns only in secondary
Pagers have to stick inside the primary screen.
most other modules (notes, battery ... ) can move any place, even in the middel :D

I am enjoying my life so much with that configuration, I dont think I ll ever be able to revert to single head, nor even to e16 I used to love so much :/

dark point: screens are not identical: 1280x1024 vs 120x768, and very different color palet.

thats no great ... really an experience to live.

by the way, every one should have a look at the video:

it is SO NICE ... and short the URL your self to visit the website: Elive CD is ... a live CD with E :D
