I have a really strange problem and i'm getting really pissed off. 
Gentoo cant boot because it says (in my words) : for gentoo too function properly init.d is needed , mount read-write and execute mkdir -p /var/lib/init.d
The problem is that init.d is there and i cannot access it in any way.
ls init.d - permission denied , rm init.d permission denied. I cant do anything.
Someone plz help because i'm about to smash my pc |

Eh oh!
I had a similar problem. I was seeing error messages "permission denied" on a backup script I ran with cron, which ran flawlessy before. After further investigation, I was the victim of the dreaded file corruption. I ended up having to reformat the partition and restore from backup. I hope you don't have the same problem.
Are you by chance running software raid - mdadm? |

No
I think i'll copy the entire partition except that file , cause i think its corrupted as you said.
If i boot from gentoo cd and chroot , everything works fine , but still init.d permission denied.
I use jfs filesystem if this could help. |

I'm willing to bet there is more than just one file corrupted. Do you have a backup? If not, you may want to check out jfsutils. I have one partition with jfs out of 3 gentoo boxes but I haven't had any trouble with it yes....knock on wood.
Probably a good idea to backup what you have and run jfs_fsck. I'd definitely read the man page and google around first. |

I did jfs_fsck -a and it said that filesystem is clean.
I also got another error prior to that : could not mount root read-write.! Then it continued booting and stopped to current error (init.d)
I dont have any clue what is the problem or how to fix it besides reformating.
PS i'm writing from OpenBSD 3.7 , a will be router-nat-firewall box  |
