i have a ultra 5 sun box and i have few 10g hard drives, and i want gentoo on one of them with ext3 and the rest to be ext3 storage drives, and i want gentoo to recognize all drives! is this possible? if so please give me some help! thanks! |

yes, just make sure you know the device nodes in /dev for the other drives and mount them someplace. |

Yup, so long as you can fit them all in the box. Talk to bazik if you need suggestions on how to stick extra drives in there. |

but i don't know what to set for the dev thingy i know the primary hd would be /dev/hda* but the separate hd would be what? my last post got deleted? |

/dev/hd?* where ? is a letter and * is a number. You'll get hdb* for the primary slave, hdc* for the secondary master, hdd* for the secondary slave. At least in an ultra5... |

The separate drives will be /dev/hdb , /dev/hdc etc (assuming they are ide drives).
You will have a fairly hard time fitting more than a couple of extra drives in.
If you remove the cdrom its possible to mount one in its place using a converter from 5inch.
or, if you remove the floppy its possible to mount a drive in its place. |

ok can i just a ide cable that has two connectors so that i connect two hd with 1 cable does that work?

Should work but you will get better performance if they are on separate ide channels. |
