I've been testing 2.6.11.10-dark2 the whole day and:
While playing xmms + emerging progs + browsing the web with firefox, the interactivity goes poor. This happens with
heavy CPU loads ~ 90%
Sometimes desktop almost goes stone cold dead...
I don't know what's the issue. Staircase ?
I'll switch back to 2.6.11-nitro2, she files like an arrow _________________ linux-2.6.17 +ck +R4 +lockless +genetic-as +... więcej nie pamiętam

staircase works differently depending on where you put it, on my machine, staircase is slicky smooth. It's likely not staircase, but your IO scheduler. I've seen a number of cases where people blame there interactivity on the CPU scheduler, when it's the IO scheduler. I recommend testing out deadline, as and cfq (cfq-ts for dark) and seeing which works better for you. cfq-ts is what I personally use and it provides great interactivity here. Since nitro is based around full ck, it uses cfq-ts by default. _________________ System: predatorbox

Tested with various IO schedulers [as][cfq-ts]. It was the first thing to switch to another IO sched when my
desktop started to die. Anticipatory was my default, so I've switched to cfq-ts.
Truth... It maight not be the CPU scheduler case... But then something has happend to IO schedulers between 2.6.11 (my nitro kernel with ck) and 2.6.11.10.
Now my box is back on 2.6.11-nitro2 + [anticipatory]. And as I wrote before - no signs of freezing.
Amarok + kernel compile + firefox... and she flies compared to 2.6.11.10
But I'm a n00b so it may be the case
Maybe it's time for me to switch to genetic-as from Jake Moilanen patchset (I remember that 2.6.9 + genetics was quite fast... But that's Fallow's playground )
Keep up good work predatorfreak! _________________ linux-2.6.17 +ck +R4 +lockless +genetic-as +... więcej nie pamiętam

No major changes IO wise have taken place in 2.6.11.X, this would conflict with the purpose of the 2.6.X.X tree. _________________ System: predatorbox

New release in the works, my internet has been flanky lately so I can't promise anything as far as a release date.
Edit: Some changes to the sanity checks in mmap.c caused some minor execshield-nx rejects, test compiling my quick fix now, the quick fix might not work, so, this will require alot of testing. _________________ System: predatorbox
