|
|
The problem I have is that I often have more than one person logged in
at the same time on my computer, but only the first person who logs in
can use the sound device
The permissions for /dev/sound/* are set automaticaly to the first user
that logs in (is this done by devfs?). They are set to "user".audio: rw-------, that is only the logged in user can access the sound device. How can I change this so that for example any member of audio can access it?
Is there a way to get all logged in users use the same esound daemon?
It would be really nice if all sounds where mixed for all users. It seems
that some programs take control of the sound device even if they are not playing any sounds.

It is PAM that takes care of setting permissions, and it follows directives from /etc/security/console.perms.
"man console.perms" contains all you need to know...
as far as I recall, you need to change the line
<console> 0600 <sound> 0600 root.audio
to something like
<console> 0660 <sound> 0600 root.audio
...I believe.
