I can't seem to get my ATI TV Wonder VE card working with the bttv driver...apps like tvtime bomb out with "videoinput: Can't open '/dev/video0': Device or resource busy" and upon running dmesg I see that there are a bazillion errors like this in there: "bttv: vmalloc_32(4259840) failed".
I'm really pulling my hair out over this one...the permissions are all correct, etc. (660, root.video on stuff in /dev/v4l). I've tried seemingly everything. Any ideas? |

My system has its video at /dev/v4l/video0. Does /dev/video0 even exists? Maybe you need a symbolic link. Try xawtv --hwscan to locate you video devices. Will the ATI card work with the bttv dirvers? I'm don't know if it does or not.

Yeah, the symlinks to /dev/v4l/vbi0 and /dev/v4l/video0 exist in /dev and point to the correct location.
Also, I've tried xawtv --hwscan, it just segfaults. An strace yields this as the last line before the segfault:
modify_ldt(0x11, 0xbfffed34, 0x10) = -1 ENOMEM (Cannot allocate memory)
Prior to spitting out that line and then segfaulting, it's just loading libraries and such, nothing especially exciting.
As far as the ATI TV Wonder VE working with bttv, I believe it's been supported by bttv for 2-3 years. At any rate, it's definitely supported now. |
