i want to install gentoo on a xbox  .

which mod chip do i need when i buy a new xbox now in store ??
does someone got information ?

Yes, with Smartxx v2 work it does. Built into a 1.6 xbox myself have I. Great it works. Consider the cheaper SmartXX LT OPX you could, perhaps.

so if i go this week and buy a xbox, it will be a 1.6 ?
or am i pissed of because i would get a 1.7 version xbox or something like that `?

AFAIK, Xboxes currently in shops are either 1.6, 1.6b or 1.6c. The SmartXX mod chips work with all of them. I'm not sure about the Cromwell BIOS though. It works on my 1.6 xbox without a hitch, but you may want to search the web to make sure before you buy. |

my xbox is modded and it works,
but i did a mistake  :
I bootet Gentoo, then I formated the original harddrive with fdisk, and now i can't load the original Xbox BIOS,
any idea ?? how to bring the original BIOS to run again ??
