|
My first ebuild has just been merged into the main tree. It's a port of the classic DOS game 'Scorched Earch' called xscorch. It requires GTK+-1.2 or greater. Give it a try and see what you think.
Look for some more games to join the tree soon. I've got several on my list of things to write ebuilds for. |

My optimization flags are "-O3 -pipe"; where are the others coming from? |

The game's configure script turns on some extras. Think they should be turned off so that only your opts get applied? |

Given that Gentoo users generally customize the optimization flags themselves, I think it would make sense to disable the builtin flags. |

No, because not all of us do that. I let the config scripts decide most of the time. Besides, from those flags your getting extra optimizations, what's there to complain about? |

(Of course, if I port Quake, I'll be obligated to port Textmode Quake as well...) |

but yes, a quake port would be awesome. oh oh!! even better... DOOM/DOOM2!! i've got my doom and doom2 wad files waiting to be used. never had the time to figure out how to get it going on linux since all the docs that i was able to find were bout 5 years old
anyone know of a more up-to-date resource?

oh god, textmode quake. scary stuff. gonna have to try it no matter how odd it seems/looks.
for doom, check out doom legacy it includes an opengl version. compile it, install it, then run llxdoom -opengl. _________________ [resident anime junkie] -- not just a linux freak. |

THat's sort of funny because Scorched Earth for DOS ran fine in an 80286. Unless this version is far more advanced, the default opt flags for XScroch seem kinda silly. _________________ The greatest deeds are still undone, the greatest songs are still unsung... |
