Like a few others here, I'm wondering (as it may happen again, $DEITY forbid) how you spotted/knew that the libtool rebuild would fix the problem with jpeglib? Can you explain it for those of us sitting in the layman's benches over here? :)

I imagine you traced back the error message to find that libtool was at issue here. Also, I wonder why this "issue" has not been fixed for over a month. Alas, I am just a user and not a coder. I am just glad an admin made this a sticky as the forums already have multiple posts on the topic.

Just installed Gentoo, and hit this problem - not a problem now of course! Gnome up and running, looking very nice.

This is really just another comment to say that emerge --oneshot libtool worked.

Installing on a Intel P4 from stage 2.

the original problem is while trying to emerge enlightenment.

!!!ERROR: media-libs/jpeg-6b-r4 failed.

so i tried emerging lib-tool as you suggested and got

!!!Digest verification Failed:
!!! /usr/portage/distfiles/autoconf-2.59.tar.bz2
!!! Reason: Failed on MD5 verification

I'd really appreciate any further suggestions.

It worked nicely for me..........

I emerge'd kbebase on friday without problems but today I thoguht i did somthing wrong.

Can this be fixed without installing the libtool?
For example by rebuilding the ebuild so that it points to the new version.

I hope this helps because it was a pain to type.

you can highlight a line and click the middle button (or both buttons if you have a 2 button mouse) to paste.

And how does one do that when Xfree86 is not installed or configured, much less running?

In that case you can have gpm up and running for mouse support. Xwindows is not required to use a mouse but you do need a helper program (like gpm) running if you are using the command line interface exclusively.

The support gets more excellent if you can spell it correctly. :D Anyways, any of you who have ventured in a new install method entitled stage 1/ on a stage 3 tarball with GCC 3.4.3. Reemerging libtools should work, though I am suprised at this problem because the whole system is rebuilt in that tutorial. The libtool command is
Code:
fix_libtool_files.sh 3.3.5
This is because the compiler shipped with 2005.0 is 3.3.5. If you are unsure try running
Code:
gcc-config -l
It will list the versions installed. The asterick is located next to the active version. You can run this script for each version listed from the above command and this will ensure all the library links are up to date.
