|
|
I've been having a problem with XMMS where after playing a few tracks from my playlist averaging between 0 and 3 % cpu usage it will spike up to 20% at that point I can stop playback and it will stay at 20% untill I close xmms or if i skip a few tracks it will eventualy go back down to normal. It always spikes or drops at the begining of a track. I've searched and havent' seen anybody else with this problem. But I do have a friend using gentoo that does have the problem. Our systmes are very similar AMD Athlon Via chipset however I'm using a SB live he has some via onboard sound. so I dont' think it's audio drivers. I'm using KDE 3.0.2 and the OSS ouput plugin in XMMS however I also tried esound and had the same issue. I tend to think this issue is in the decoding of the mp3 not the output but I could be wrong. Any sugestions would be greatly appreciated. |

I'm using the sound blaster emu10k1 driver that's included in the kernel source. |

Have you tried using mpg123 or any other player to see if you get similar results, perhaps it isn't xmms but your sound driver causing the odd cpu usage. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

Using alsa I experience the same problem also it is directly related to xmms as the cpu usage wont' drop untill I close xmms not just stoping playback so I really don't think it's a driver issue. |

I am not saying it isn't xmms, for me xmms locks up after 10 minutes of streaming shoutcast but if I switch to esd it doesn't lock up anymore....So xmms does indeed do strange things. _________________ This message self destructed a long time ago. |

What kernel are you using? Also what were you doing at the time? Normally related to whatever you are doing on the desktop etc.

I'm using the gentoo 2.4.19-r7 kernel. As far as what I'm doing I'll usualy have gaim and mozilla going and I'm using kde 3.0.2 I have tried using the oss, alsa, arts, and esd output plugins for xmms none seem to make a difference. It doesn't usualy do it right away when I launch it. I just randomly starts after a while and will just as randomly go back down to normal if I leave it alone. |
