I can't apply that patch on 20050310-r1, and so I can't emerge wine (again those libXext and libX11 things).

now trying with
Code:
EXTRA_ECONF="--x-libraries=/emul/linux/x86/usr/lib" emerge wine

seems to go well
fingers crossed

[edit]
it failed again. This time it stopped with an error on arts. This error was described somewhere I believe. arts is in my system wide USE flags. I disabled it for wine in packages.use, and retried compiling wine... success!
[/edit]

BlauwVoet Add the following line to your /etc/portage/package.use file:

Code:
app-emulation/wine -arts

I still got no luck with the previous 20050310-r1 version nor the new one 20050419.

I would get with 20050310-r1, and currently get with 20050419, the very same error, pertaining to "server":

now try
Code:

EXTRA_ECONF="--x-libraries=/emul/linux/x86/usr/lib" MAKEOPTS="-j1" emerge wine

(MAKEOPTS="-j1" forces make to do a single process/thread so that errors happen right when it exits. so you don't have to copy/paste a ton of useless stuff.)

I cat't emerge wine-20050419, yet.

I removed any modification in package.use regarding wine, and it keeps failing the same way it did a few days ago:

I tried to look for glut32.dll.so in my system, but it seems not to be present:
Code:
sudo equery belongs glut32.dll.so
[ Searching for file(s) glut32.dll.so in *... ]

Is the lack of glut32.dll.so responsible for the wine emerging failure?

I get the same errors with wine-20050419 as jsharrad so I decided to put it in my /etc/portage/package.mask so when I do an emerge -u world it does not try to upgrade to the broken version of wine.

Uhm, jsharrad is using wine-20050310-r1, not wine-20050419 like you and i. maybe jsharrad can emerge sync and try again?

:oops: I missed the version...

Actually, wine-20050310-r1 compiled and ran fine after adding use -arts. wine-20050419 had the same exact error as jsharrad had with wine-20050310-r1. This makes me think the problem is probably with some new headers / lib that we are both using and that I did not have installed when I installed wine-20050310-r1.

I'm doing a stage 3 x86 install. No more AMD64 problems for me. Incident closed.

I emerged wine today and it is mostly working. But it is giving me error messages about not finding lcms. Since one of the reasons that installed this is to run Photoshop and I want color management to be working. So I installed lcms from an rpm and re-emerged wine with use="lcms". But I am still getting error messages about wine not being able to find lcms. How to I get this to work?

R U talking 2 me?
Gentoo is all about choice, and I choose x86.

I'm not interested in being in the front line, a stable system is good enough for me. When all, and I repeat all software is ported to AMD64, I'll reserve some space on a spare partition to try it out. But not today, not yet. It's just too difficult and my IQ is below 137. :oops:

By the way, I see you live in Hoboken. Would that be Hoboken, near Antwerp, where my father in law was born and raised and a proverbial bowshot from where I am now, or Hoboken near New York, a few more bowshots away?

Sorry, I guess i don't like to see things underused. It's like when someone buys a Ferrari and never drives over the speed limit, and never takes a turn more sharply than absolutely necessary. These things are built for performance :)

I don't know where Antwerp is, but this is the Hoboken a cannon shot from NYC. And when i mean a cannon shot, i mean my school has a cannon pointed across the river at NYC :D

Edit: dear lord, since when do i spell "cannon" "cannot" ?

I have found that my wine apps to not see my printer. I am using CUPS and gimp-print for my epson 1280 printer. This is working correctly for native apps but when I am running wine apps they can not find the printer. I have looked at the documentation on the wine web site and it says that if you have a CUPS printer wine will automaticaly configure it. This does not appear to be true in all cases. Could this be because this printer is a raster printer rather than a postscript printer? What do I have to do to configure this?

It's working !!

using
Code:
EXTRA_ECONF="--x-libraries=/emul/linux/x86/usr/lib" MAKEOPTS="-j1" emerge wine

it gives :
Code:
app-emulation/wine-20050419  +X +alsa -arts +cups -debug -doc +gif -glut -jack +jpeg -lcms -nas +ncurses +opengl +oss

Thanks all for making this possible !

could someone who HAS gotten it to work successfuly post their:
Code:

# emerge -pv wine

and
Code:

# emerge info

Its gotta be something with different versions, and if we can get enough people to post their (working wine, versions of) emerge info and emerge -pv wine, we might be able to narrow down a setup that will ALWAYS work, instead of this haphazard working...

Also, will there be a wine-bin? :D

I posted about two days ago asking about printing. I am not able to print from any app I am running with wine. Can anyone else running wine on amd64 print from any app. I have even tried the simplest possible cases like printing from notepad. It is a total no go. If this is working for others than I will assume that I have some type of configuration problem. But if no one has this working then I have to conclude that there is a problem with the ebuild. So is anyone able to print using wine?
