Anyone tried this new release? As of lately I've become a big K3B fan.

Have you gotten ATAPI cd burning to work? Or are you using SCSI-emulation?

I can't for my life make k3b work as a user, works great as root - but as a user I can't see my devices.

it sucks, but I can live with running it as root since it's the best cdburning app out there.

Do you have proper permissions for the devices?

As a user, what does 'cdrdao scanbus' return? If nothing then try making a group cdrecording with root and your user name in it, then use chgrp cdrecording files, and maybe it will work.

Well thanks (shoulda caught that on my searching)--it cleared that up but now gcc errors out a ways through the k3b build.

Code:
libtool: link: cannot find the library `/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.2.1/libstdc++.la'
make[3]: *** [k3bsetup] Error 1
make[3]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/k3b-0.8/work/k3b-0.8/src/k3bsetup'
make[2]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/k3b-0.8/work/k3b-0.8/src'
make[1]: *** [all-recursive] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/var/tmp/portage/k3b-0.8/work/k3b-0.8'
make: *** [all] Error 2

!!! ERROR: app-cdr/k3b-0.8 failed.
!!! Function kde_src_compile, Line 115, Exitcode 2
!!! died running emake, kde_src_compile:make

kportage just failed when I was doing a weekly `emerge -u world` too...hmm.

And now k3b knows about the devices also, it seems that ATAPI doesn't work but IDE-SCSI does... that was the main error, apparently.

Thanks, so from the sounds of it, we'll have to wait until the next version of K3B is released to use ATAPI cd burning. Unless of course, you want to mess around with the cvs version and patches (which I don't feel I need to do since I have SCSI-emulation working).

Yeah, that what it seems like. I haven't gotten scsi emulation to work yet. But I remember that it's not difficult. I just have to run a search to find out my fstab entries. I guess that it sounds like even if one of us got it working there doesn't seem to be any benefit.

Atapi, or atleast for me, does not work. To get my DVD drive to work in K3B, I had to disable ide cdrom support, and just have the scsi emulation in the kernel.
