READ THIS FIRST
Nitro-sources is an experimental kernel patch set which is NOT supported by the Gentoo devs. If you have problems with something, see if the problem persists with a kernel supported by Gentoo. If you still have the same problem with a kernel supported by Gentoo (like vanilla-sources), then file a bug report at https://bugs.gentoo.org . If you only had the problem with 2.6.12-rc2-nitro1, and not with a vanilla kernel, then bug us in this thread.

ATI DRIVERS DO NOT WORK WITH 2.6.12-rc2 KERNELS !!!!!!
PLEASE TRY THE EBUILD FROM FALLOW (LOVE SOURCES THREAD) FOR HACKED ATI VERSION,
DO NOT POST BUGREPORTS ABOUT ATI MODULE NOT BUILDING/WORKING !!!!!!

Changes
- This is the initial 2.6.12-rc2-nitro release, see release notes ^

NOTE (*updated*) :
Vesafb-tng is broken on some systems
To test if vesafb-tng works on your system maybe, activate the nitro-broken-features in the main Kconfig menu first,
otherwise vfb-tng is not selectable and thus off by default.
Because most ppl report it works for them, next release will have vfb-tng unlocked and as default.

Jipp,
Code:
mv nitro-sources-2.6.12-rc2-r1.ebuild nitro-sources-2.6.12_rc2-r1.ebuild

will fix the digest problem as hermes_jr posted but you can't direct download the nitro-patchset from SF.

eBuild works fine now!
ATM I have not the time for testing the kernel but I'm sure my config will work but vesa-tng.
I will test it maybe tomorrow or anytime at the weekend.

Thanks tiger for your work!

PS: eBuild direct download

Quick question: why are you patching it with ALSA? 1.0.9-rc2 is already part of the vanilla 2.6.12-rc2 kernel.

unfortunately swsusp seems to be broken for me. always hangs on suspend. cant tell whether its nitro or a 2.1.8.5 problem. will check it out tomorrow (later today).

@TigerBabe... :D

I just saw you've released an "own" patchset called JadeX. I was impressed you put realtime preempt (PREEMPT_RT) in it. You said and some other guys too, that it's really improving your performance mainly the desktop performance. The nitro-sources are always designed to be fast (that's why they're called nitro :wink:) and so there's the question if you'll put this future maybe into one of the next RCs!? Or are the JadeX-Sources the Nitro test set? *g*

PS: Now it makes sense. Yesterday I was really confused why the path on SF includes "jadex-sources" but now it's clear.

@Robin79
hmm, littlelate, but though, i'll add in the next release, or is it that important?
if so, i might make a clean patch against nitro...

Whatever you like.

@b3cks: believe me, you don't want Realtime Prempt in nitro... Two reasons:
1) it behaves good mainly, but is unpredictable
2) Con loathes it, so he will stop liking and encouraging nitro

@all:
Since someone has reported vesafb-tng DOES work on his/her system, i can only encourage trying it,
if it works for more people, i'll unlock it by default in the next release (or seppe will, if he finds time anytime soon..)
It didn't wotk for me, then again, it might be because i use gcc4 to compile my kernels, and it might have a problem with it,
since i also had a problem in jadeX, and it looks like it was NOT about RTP... :/

cheers,

T

Swsusp 2 apears broken in this nitro hangs during suspend. 2.6.12-rc1 patched with swsusp2 works fine so it seems the problem is with nitro.

Nice to see a new build though, keep up the good work.
