http://217.209.205.126/goawaybaselayout.html

This might be interesting for some of you. I really don't want this topic to end up with alot of discussion why not to use this and alot of other bullshit so do what you want with this information.. It's certainly not for anyone but it's perfect to me and i like it :)

Btw, i don't want to step on anyones toes so observe that the credits should go to the guys behind the Crux distro..

NOTE:
I've updated the guide.. and i've removed the emerge -C baselayout part so it won't cause any problems..
The new version is here: http://217.209.205.126/init.html

Great howto! -- I like baselayout personally, but this certainly is a lighter solution for some of you minimalists :)

Afterall, the power of baselayout isnt really needed in many situations. Look at fedora for instance that cant tell if services have been started or not ;) (or rather marks failed services as started).

Why isn't this suited to be under "Documentation, Tips & Tricks"?

Generally the "Documentation, Tips & Tricks" section is used with a top-post that has the entire document in it and gets updated by the author when needed. But that's not why it's moved.

My guess is because it will probably lead to a baselayout vs no-baselayout discussion instead of a technical discussion on the document / steps themselves.

BTW, I receive a 504 Gateway timeout...

Is there a page explaining how to make that run, it sounds like a fun weekend project.

Not really...basically you get your freebsd install, you get the tarball from my webspace ( http://dev.gentoo.org/~spb/fbsd/freebsd-rcscripts-0.3.tar.bz2 at the moment), unpack them, and read the README. ;) If you want to go one step further and install portage too, then http://dev.gentoo.org/~ka0ttic/doc/fbsd-install.html is what you want. ;)

I tried it out and I honestly don't see what all the fuzz is about...
